Some New York streets still feel unmistakably like neighborhoods.
Court Street is one of them.
With its brownstones, tree-lined blocks, longtime institutions, cafés, restaurants, and independent shops, Cobble Hill has the sense of history and community we have always admired.
You can feel that history walking down Court Street. Old neighborhood businesses sit alongside new restaurants and independent shops. People have their regular places. New things arrive without completely replacing what came before.
Just up the street from our new store, historic Cobble Hill Cinemas has been showing movies for more than a century. The theater has survived changing names, changing owners, and a changing Brooklyn. It even had a cameo in Spider-Man 3, with Mary Jane living across the street.
Court Street is familiar, cinematic, and full of stories.
It is exactly the kind of place we want Res Ipsa to be part of.
We're now open at 289 Court Street, and it feels good to have a home in Brooklyn.

We've always believed the best streets are made by the people and places you find along them.
The bakery someone has visited every Sunday for thirty years. The restaurant where they know your order. The bookstore you enter without looking for anything in particular. The shop where you stop to talk for twenty minutes longer than you intended.
These are the places that give a neighborhood its personality.
That's what drew us to Court Street. It has changed without losing the sense that the businesses along it belong here.
When we founded Res Ipsa in 2013, we believed retail could be about more than transactions. Our stores are places to wander, try something on, have a conversation, discover something unexpected, and hopefully leave with a story.
We want to be one of those places on Court Street.
Inside 289 Court Street
Like every Res Ipsa store, our new Brooklyn home is filled with the pieces that have defined us for more than a decade.
You'll find our handmade kilim and cowhide footwear, one-of-a-kind bags, handwoven clothing, vintage denim, and pieces inspired by the people and places we've encountered through travel.
Our stores are meant to be explored.
Try on a pair of kilim loafers and find the pattern that belongs to you. Pick up something made by hand and see the details that don't always translate through a screen. Find the jacket or pair of jeans you didn't know you were looking for. Ask us where something came from.
No two Res Ipsa stores are exactly alike because no two neighborhoods are exactly alike.

There's another connection between our new Brooklyn home and our other New York stores that feels particularly New York.
Each is a short walk from the F train.
Christopher Street. Elizabeth Street. Court Street.
Three neighborhoods. One train.
Ride through New York and each stop takes you somewhere completely different. The West Village has its winding streets and townhouses. Nolita has the energy of downtown Manhattan. Cobble Hill has its brownstones, neighborhood institutions, independent shops, and a rhythm entirely its own.
Different neighborhoods connected by the same line.
There's something about that we love.
Travel doesn't always mean crossing an ocean. Sometimes it's getting off the train somewhere different, walking a street you've never walked, and paying attention to what you find.
That's pretty much how we've always thought about travel.
A Place for the Stories We Bring Home
Res Ipsa began in 2013 with a simple idea: travel farther, pay closer attention, and bring home things worth sharing.
More than a decade later, that idea still guides what we make, what we find, and where we choose to open stores.
A kilim rug that began its life decades ago can eventually become a pair of shoes on Court Street. Fabric woven by hand in Marrakech can become the shirt someone discovers while wandering through Brooklyn.
Our stores bring those journeys together.
They're also the beginning of new ones. The things we make leave with the people who find them and become part of wherever they're going next.
That's what Our Brand Is Travel has always meant to us.
